June 28, 2017 Fishing Report

Striped Bass fishing remains strong for now but we expect activity to wind down in the next 2 to 3 weeks. As we approach the July full moon look for Striper activity in deeper, cooler waters at dawn and dusk. As always with summertime Striper fishing we urge all anglers to take extra care reviving large fish before release. Fluke and Black Sea Bass remain steady but not particularly hot and heavy. We are seeing lots of fish 20-22" in size, no jumbos to speak of yet. Scup sightings are popping up left and right. We have yet to...

June 15, 2017 Fishing Report

Warm temperatures have brought the Flounder out of hiding. We are seeing nice fish of both the Connecticut and New York side of Long Island Sound. Although Sand Eels remain the meal of choice for these flatties, more and more fish are showing up with bellies full of juvenile Scup between 3-4” in length. A white Spro tipped with Sand Eel is our suggestion for success this weekend. Striped Bass continue their migration East. Solid reports are coming in daily pointing to the night bite as the best time to find big breeder fish. Not much has changed as far...

Western Long Island Sound

June 8, 2017 Fishing Report

It’s no secret that Fluke fishing in Western LIS past week has been sub par. Cold temperatures; wind and rain have been detouring drifts last weekend into the early part of this week. We have been watching the weather and it looks like we are in for a serious warm up across the Sound over the next few days. Fluke as a rule, seek out warmer waters around 65 degrees. We are hoping to see the arrival of sun and west winds bring the doormats out of their hiding places for the summer. Fortunately the ladies of the Fancy Fluke...

June 1, 2017 Fishing Report

Below average water temperatures in Western Long Island Sound have kept the Fluke bite at bay for the time being. We are still seeing keepers but with less frequency than we would like. Jigging brought on Sea Robins with every drop this weekend. Our keeper size fish were harvested on sandy bottom by using “dead sticking” larger 8” squid rigs tipped with squid strips and sand eels. As it always goes, Fluke fishing is May is either hot or not. Striped Bass and Blues continue on their migration invading the Sound in search of Bunker. Large schools of adult...

May 24, 2017 Fishing Report

Spring run is in full effect in Long Island Sound. Blues, Bass and Fluke are in. Over the last four days we have seen an influx of large Bunker schools in both Bridgeport and Fairfield. Although water temperatures remain on the cooler side of 55 degrees the stage is set for an epic summer. Bait schools that sat largely undisturbed over the weekend are now getting busted by daytime Blues and evening Striped Bass. Bunker is key at this stage in the game and fresh is best! Want to intercept a migrating fish? We suggest live-lining in shallow water between...
